This work was inspired by my seafaring past. The suitcase itself holds many nostalgic memories for me, and for many years was a constant travelling companion on my many sea voyages. In this piece it has become a repository, full of the symbols and insignia associated with my travels. The names of British Merchant Shipping Companies are used to decorate the interior of the suitcase and house flags from some of these companies have been used to create the internal banners.

Book-Case: Suitcase with digital prints, Approx. W40 x D30 x H12 cm, Ed.1/1, 2008

Making this book opened up a whole new way for me to realise latent memories, to explore and communicate a personal visual dialogue formed and derived from my past seafarer experiences, using materials that were sympathetic to the ideas within the piece.  Canvas adhered to thick card formed the book covers, which were screen printed with the house names of various shipping companies.  The pages form a concertina-type sail, which contained the itinerary of ships voyages. Metal eyelets and marine memorabilia added the finishing touches to the book.

Travelogue/Odyssey: Inkjet print with screen-printed cloth covers with eyelets, chain and anchor closing tie, H23 cm x W41 cm fully extended, Ed.1/1, 2007
